Paul is a seasoned finance and operations leader with over two decades of finance experience in the UK technology sector. As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at GetBusy plc, the parent company of Workiro, he plays a pivotal role in steering the company's financial strategy and is responsible for operations, legal and investor relations.
He started his career at services behemoth Deloitte, where he spent a decade advising a range of listed and private technology and software clients, leading several transformational mergers and acquisitions engagements. In the process, he got plenty of first-hand experience on how businesses of all sizes manage, or often fail to manage, their documents - something which gives him particular appreciation for what Workiro offers.
After accumulating years of multidisciplinary advisory experience, he opted to start putting it into action - first at medical supply company Consort Medical as Group Financial Controller, and then to global lighting firm Dialight where he rose to EMEA Finance Director. As well as being responsible for financial processes, staff and compliance, he also co-led the strategic offshoring of the company's UK manufacturing operations, and the transition of the Dialight EMEA business to a sales and distribution model.
Paul joined Workiro’s parent company GetBusy as CFO in 2017, shortly after the business went public. He’s since built and lead the finance team and served as the executive lead for legal, corporate governance and investor relations over the company’s ongoing expansion.
His extensive knowledge of corporate finance from across the business spectrum, and associated compliance requirements, gives him a powerful insight in the accounting requirements of modern businesses. As a veteran finance leader, he has a particular understanding of the challenges faced by Workiro’s customers - the most common of which is scaling up, and how to maintain an innovative culture while building in the required systems and frameworks.
That’s a human problem, but choosing the right technology makes a world of difference, as is making sure it’s sensibly integrated with all the other platforms a business uses. Navigating the dazzling range of different solutions is a daunting task, and making the wrong choice can clog internal systems to calamitous effect - Paul is passionate about Workiro’s role in solving those problems, and supporting the business to be ready for the issues of tomorrow.
He has regularly represented the company to investors and press, and served as an executive mentor to the wider industry through his participation in the Finance Leadership Programme. In his downtime, he’s an award-winning nightscape photographer and filmmaker (making use of his original pre-accountancy degree in astronomy) whose footage has appeared in the Daily Mail, the BBC and New Scientist.
